About the Initiative

Who was George Mason?

George Mason was a delegate to the 1787 Constitutional Convention.  His writings have been a significant influence on political thought and events and  the Virginia Declaration of Rights, which Mason principally authored, served as a basis for the United States Bill of Rights, of which he has been deemed the father. George Mason was also a leading Antifederalist during the Ratification Debates.  His political philosophy endures to the modern age as local governments across the nation attempt to find their role in the modern political order.

What is the George Mason Institute of Public Affairs?

The primary goal of this initiative is to provide multidisciplinary resources and education for local government representatives so that they can better serve their constituents according to constitutional principles. We believe that local government is the heir of the Founding generation; the last bastion of true American republicanism and therefore, ought to be promulgated for posterity.
